Tranquility
of Order is Peace
Hello! How is each and every one? What an opportune topic, we are starting in today’s post! Peace as defined is a state of tranquility, harmony, and freedom from violence and conflict. Peace is the absence or cessation of war or hostilities. Peace is a state of friendship and harmony between individuals or groups. Peace is a lack of fear of violence. Peace can be a state of mutual concord between governments and a pact to end hostilities.
St
Augustine defines peace in his monumental work “City of God” as the tranquility
of order. That is, when things are so arranged that justice is done to each and
each can work toward the good according to capability, the harmony that arises
can properly be called “peace.” In his own words: “The peace of the celestial
city…” (Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington).
We need to pray to Jesus, the King of Peace and to His
mother Mary, the Queen of peace for peace in the heart of each and every
person, in the family, in the home, in society, in the country, in each and
every country and in the whole world. “Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to people of good will” (Lk 2:14). Besides now I recall the
following song “Let There Be Peace on Earth”.
Let
There Be Peace on Earth
Song by Vince Gill
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with
me
Let There Be Peace on
Earth
The peace that was
meant to be
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my
brother
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with
me
Let this be the moment
now.
With ev'ry step I take
Let this be my solemn
vow
To take each moment
and live
Each moment in peace
eternally
Let there be peace on
earth
And let it begin with
me
Songwriters: Jill
Jackson / Sy Miller
We will be starting Chapter 7, on satisfying our divine longing for peace (From Broken Gods, Hope, Healing, and the Seven Longings of the Human Heart, Gregory K. Popcak, Ph. D. Ch 7).
Satisfying the
Divine Longing for Peace
Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice. It demands greater heroism than war. It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience. —Thomas Merton
Peace. Who
doesn’t want more peace in their life? Our lives are filled with conflict.
0ur hearts are consumed by ongoing battles with that
inner voice that won’t stop picking, picking, picking.
And in the middle of all of this chaos, conflict, and noise, Jesus comes to give us the peace that we all long for.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Mt 11:28-30).
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let our hearts be troubled and do not
be afraid (Jn 14: 27).
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world (Jn 16:33).
The Root of Our Longing
for Peace
See you in the next post,
“May tomorrow be a perfect day; may
you find love and laughter along the way; may God keep you in his tender care;
‘til He brings us together again.”
Affectionately,
Guadalupinky
