Tranquility of Order is Peace

Hello! How is each and every one? What an opportune topic, we are starting in today’s post!  Peace as defined is a state of tranquility, harmony, and freedom from violence and conflict.  Peace is the absence or cessation of war or hostilities.  Peace is a state of friendship and harmony between individuals or groups. Peace is a lack of fear of violence. Peace can be a state of mutual concord between governments and a pact to end hostilities.

St Augustine defines peace in his monumental work “City of God” as the tranquility of order. That is, when things are so arranged that justice is done to each and each can work toward the good according to capability, the harmony that arises can properly be called “peace.” In his own words: “The peace of the celestial city…” (Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington).

We need to pray to Jesus, the King of Peace and to His mother Mary, the Queen of peace for peace in the heart of each and every person, in the family, in the home, in society, in the country, in each and every country and in the whole world. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will” (Lk 2:14). Besides now I recall the following song “Let There Be Peace on Earth”.

Let There Be Peace on Earth

Song by Vince Gill

Let there be peace on earth

And let it begin with me

Let There Be Peace on Earth

The peace that was meant to be

With God as our Father

Brothers all are we

Let me walk with my brother

In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me

Let this be the moment now.

With ev'ry step I take

Let this be my solemn vow

To take each moment and live

Each moment in peace eternally

Let there be peace on earth

And let it begin with me

Songwriters: Jill Jackson / Sy Miller

Aleteia Prayer that God will build a world of peace

Today is the Election Day in the United States of America and the whole world is attuned to every second of the day’s report on the results.  It is believed to be a crucial one for the whole world. If you are following the news closely you would more or less be able to judge wisely whether you are voting or not depending on where you are.  You will know how to respond accordingly, physically and spiritually. If you are not following the news closely it would be best for you to keep your comments to yourself.  It is no wonder then that people are reminded of the importance of informing oneself about the persons running for office so that one knows who each candidate is, his person, life, achievements, policies and love for country. Likewise an informed voter will be exercising her duty of voting well for deserving and qualified candidates to do the good job of serving his country best. Let us continue praying for the most just and lovable will of God to be done, fulfilled, praised and exalted above all things.

We will be starting Chapter 7, on satisfying our divine longing for peace (From Broken Gods, Hope, Healing, and the Seven Longings of the Human Heart, Gregory K. Popcak, Ph. D. Ch 7).

Satisfying the Divine Longing for Peace

Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice.  It demands greater heroism than war.  It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience. —Thomas Merton

Peace.  Who doesn’t want more peace in their life?  Our lives are filled with conflict.

Aleteia Entrust world peace to Mary, Queen of Peace

0ur hearts are consumed by ongoing battles with that inner voice that won’t stop picking, picking, picking.

And in the middle of all of this chaos, conflict, and noise, Jesus comes to give us the peace that we all long for.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Mt 11:28-30).

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let our hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (Jn 14: 27).

Aleteia Our Lady of Guadalupe for peace

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world (Jn 16:33).

Aleteia Achieving peace through contemplation

Most of us find these words of Christ incredibly comforting, if not just a little difficult to believe.  Since this world is anything but peaceful, it can be hard to hope that we could ever experience anything resembling peace in our lives.  But deep within our hearts is a call to peace, a call that becomes stronger the closer we draw to God.

The Root of Our Longing for Peace

Aleteia

Like the divine longing for justice, the divine longing for peace is rooted in the collective unconscious memory of the Original Unity of God and humankind.  As I have noted throughout this book, Original Unity is the term coined by St. John Paul the Great in his theology of the body (2006).  It refers to the state of harmony that existed before the Fall when God, man, and woman were in union with one another and all the world functioned according to God’s intended design.

After the Fall, when sin entered the world, the peace and harmony of Original Unity was all but destroyed.  Nothing worked as it should.  Chaos, disorder, and discord reigned.  Still, in God’s mercy, humankind continues to be haunted by a deep longing for peace, not just the peace that comes from the absence of conflict and injustice in our own lives, but also the “peace of the interior gaze,” when God, man, and woman were one and could be known intimately and harmoniously by one another.

Aleteia

In the end what is important is our relationship with God, our Creator, Father and Lord and everything else.  Let us take care of Him in our life as he takes care of each one of us.  He is closer to each one of us than each one of us is to our own self. Reflect on what we just said and discover the truth about yourself and about God.  Know yourself and know God.  The truth that you and I are loved by Him like no other and that without him you and I are nothing and can do nothing.

See you in the next post, “May tomorrow be a perfect day; may you find love and laughter along the way; may God keep you in his tender care; ‘til He brings us together again.”

Affectionately,
